THINGS TO DO WINTER EDITION

Winters in Newport, RI truly has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for some outdoor fun or prefer staying inside (kind of), this town has hidden secrets only the locals know about.

POND HOCKEY AT LILY POND

Nowadays you rarely see the community coming together, but at Lily Pond, having a good time (safely) is the top priority. Whether you bring your skates or just a chair to enjoy the view, this spot is always buzzing with family fun.

HEATED IGLOOS

For the recent years, Gurney's Newport was one of the only places providing a winter dining and cocktail experience with their decorated heated igloos. Today there are a variety of local restaurants utilizing them as a winter experience as well as being covid compliant. Grab dinner with friends or a hot coco night cap inside the winter oasis.

GOAT HIKES AT SIMMONS FARMS

Located in Middletown there is a family run farm: Simmons Farm who encourages everyone to get outside, embrace the cold and walk some goats! Yes you read that correctly. Bundle up, choose a goat and walk the goats around on your hike! Farmer Karla will lead you through the historic property and pass the Galloway cows, views of the Narragansett Bay and mingle with the barnyard bird friends. End the hike back at the farm with a warm cup of hot chocolate made with milk straight from the farm!

SLEDDING AT FORT ADAMS

One of the best places on Aquidneck Island to sled and tube with your family and friends is right at Fort Adams. Located near the rugby and soccer fields are the hills that are known for being fast and furious. With snow accumulating and more coming soon, suit up, blow up your tube and prepare for a great time!

RUNNING WITH RUN NEWPORT

Looking for a run club while you’re in town? Best opportunity to get some exercise in, explore the area and connect with the community. Run Newport offers weekly group runs that last three to five miles and ending back at your starting point. Stop by their storefront in Newport, pick up some new sneakers and get on the road!
